Healthy and Sane

January 10th, 2012 · 16 Comments · Uncategorized

  • I have been excited for what’s in store for me this coming year.
  • I have been cooking healthy meals every weekday. Not all of them have been winners.
  • I have been eating dessert in copious amounts.
  • I have restarted counting calories, just to see how much I eat (I haven’t been restricting, just noting.) Surprisingly, I sort of like it.
  • The notes say I’ve been eating over 2,000 calories/day, about 1/3 coming from dessert.
  • I want to cut down on my dessert consumption.
  • I didn’t leave the house yesterday even though I had the car to go grocery shopping. Because my face broke out.
  • I started writing a post about this tomato goat cheese strata yesterday. But I wasn’t into it so I didn’t publish it (I will rewrite it and post it when it feels right – it was delicious!).

  • I want to look healthy and happy on my sister’s wedding. It’s in April.
  • I want this year to be the best year of my life.
  • I will make it happen by taking care of myself and working for my dreams.

What are your truths today?

Great post! I believe the key to looking and feeling happy is being happy from within. I know you’re on the path to get there.

Truths: (1) I have been working insanely lately and I’m looking forward to unwinding this weekend. (2) No matter how old I turn, I always look forward to my birthday. (3) I need to really buckle down and get healthy for my wedding this year.

    Same statement about desserts!

I also want this year to be the best year of my life :)

We are very similar in our goals…to be happy and healthy. I have started to realize that it is not ‘at eating time’ that I need to focus on mindfulness. It is the rest of my day that I have been trying to be mindful. When I do this, I am happy, enjoy life and my food decisions become ‘normal’ and my food issues seem to disappear. It has been interesting and eye-opening.

i’ve actually cut all sugar from my diet except for one cheat day a week… it’s been MUCH easier than i thought it would be.
on sunday i had one square of the chocolate i used to eat by the bar ( ok , by the half bar) and didn’t like it at all! crazy how my tastebuds changed so quickly!!

Yes, sometimes it helps to reveal the truth. For example, I spend way too much time on the internet. Need to work on that.

This is a great list. My truths are that I would love to eat more healthfully, but I just cave sometimes. So my bigger plan is to eat more things that are better for me, but also not deny myself anything.

My biggest truth is I’m a doing weight watchers again, but this time with a completely different approach. The first time I was incredibly rigid about it and it definitely stressed me out. This time I’m much more realistic and I think that helps. It means that if I have a day that is a bit heavier in calories I don’t stress and see that there is a natural ebb and flow to my eating.

    1. I spend way too much time on the internet.
    2. I FINALLY threw out the last bit of Christmas goodies this morning because I gained over the holidays and I too have broken out from all the bad eating and have not left the house in 2 days! : (
    3. I made myself work out on my little treadmill this morning for the first time in 8 weeks! Hard but felt good! To have sweated out bad toxins was healthy!
    4. I have a big family reunion at the end of March out of state and want to look healthy and happy!
    5. I am lucky to have a wonderful husband, family and friends and 2 loving cats who love me regardless of my pudgy, pimply and somewhat pessimistic side. lol : )

I love this, Elina! I’m glad that calorie counting for observation felt good to you. Sometimes knowledge can be a great thing. It sounds like you have all the pieces to get to that feeling of healthy and happy!

LOVED this post Elina! That’s so something I would do…staying in due to a breakout. Next time, we can both stay in and cook together? haha

The strata looks amazing, can’t wait for you to post the recipe. Sounds like you have some amazing goals and intentions for yourself, all super exciting!

Great truths list. I often do the same thing with calories: just track them and gather information.
I’m with you on making 2012 a great year. Good luck with your goals! Your sister’s wedding sounds like great motivation (and congratulations, Inna!).

Truth of the day: My list of to do’s still has a lot to get scratched off of it.

  • #14 - Lauren @ Healthy Food For Living

Cutting down on sugary desserts is a definite must for me! Congrats in advance to your sister – so exciting!

  • #15 - Kelly @foodiefresh

Elina, I just love your unabashed honesty. My truth: I’ve only been about 90% successful in avoiding sugars on my sugar detox and I’m completely okay with that. Cutting down on sugar is not easy!

I loved this post, Elina. A large majority of my daily calories go toward my after dinner dessert (darn sweet tooth). I try to make it a healthy version so I get my sweet fix without the extra fat/calories. You can totally succeed at reaching all of your goals this year. I love that you are excited for the coming year! So happy for you!!
