Are you guys tofu fans? Over the years I’ve become quite a fan and made Adam a convert too. I find it so versatile!
A few weeks ago I received an email from Daria who does PR for Nasoya. She wanted me to check out their new Nasoya Tofu U website (U stands for university) – a destination of all things tofu (recipes, games, instructional videos, and contests). She also told me about some of their newer products, like the organic sprouted tofu and TofuPlus which is fortified with additional vitamins, and offered to send me coupons to try them out. Of course I jumped at the chance (and asked for somethin’ somethin’ for you too!!).
I browsed through the Tofu U “cafeteria” section and found an interesting looking recipe for crispy tofu tacos with creamy jalapeno lime drizzle and decided to give it a go.
It’s important to press water out of your tofu if you want crispy results. Thanks, Lindsay, for sending me this awesome press!!
The tofu pressis not a must though. Here is my previous “tofu-pressing system.”
This recipe was unusual to me because instead of flour, you covered the tofu pieces in cornstarch before stir-frying. I was really happy with the results, though – it created a real crust on each piece and the Worchester sauce gave it a lot of flavor!
Don’t forget the fantastic toppings! This was the perfect balance of sweet, spicy, crunchy and creamy with mango, jalapenos, bell pepper and avocado.
I turned the tacos into refreshing burritos… sort of

I have to say I love the tofu cream cheeses. I can’t eat regular cream cheese so they are great for me. I have been wanting to add more tofu to my diet so this would spur me into action!
I actually have cubed tofu marinating in garlic sauce in my fridge for dinner tonight!
i just got a tofu xpress and i love it! i feel like i’m not wasting so many paper towels and it really is versatile. i also use it to press the water out of spinach.
what a great giveaway!
I am always looking for new ways to use tofu. I find it easy to use in place of meat in chili’s and casseroles.
I ‘like’ you on FB.
I subscribe to your emails.
Looks like we were both visited by the tofu fairy! The tacos sound great
Ben has converted as well, isn’t it great to live with a man who doesn’t cringe at the mention of tofu? We must be lucky gals!
I love tofu and I would love this prize. Definitely would encourage me to cook a little more this holiday season! I also tweeted about this giveaway! <3
YUM – mouth is watering thinking of the possibilities. I’ve been working on perfecting my peanut sauce, so this could go well with some pad thai!
Your tacos look delicious – I’ve never thought to use tofu that way! I usually prepare it by marinating with soy sauce, honey, hot sauce, chili pepper and sesame seeds and then baking until golden brown. Its so good that even my boyfriend loves it! Thanks for the giveaway.
This looks delish! I absolutely need to get a tofu press one of these days!
I’ve always been a tofu fan myself, but a good crust is key. I’ve tried it other ways (like grilling) and while the flavor could be great, I missed the crust. One of my favorite ways to make it is Mark Bittman’s tofu croutons. Basically I just toss them with a bit of oil and roast up in the oven. They get nice and crunchy on the outside without a ton of added fat.
Your recipe sounds so good! I have been craving Mexican food and tofu, and I love that you’ve combined the two.
That tofu press is on my wishlist. Currently, I just use a clean dish towel and some heavy books to press out the extra water, but I’d love a more “sophisticated” method.
I love everything Tofu , with miso soup or grilled with soy sauce, yum!

I love EVERYTHING about this dish. I really need to get one of those tofu presses. It has been on my wishlist for quite some time!
I used to hate tofu, but I realized the secret was pressing it dry. Crispy tofu every time!

Yummy! I love the addition of fresh cilantro. Tofu is one of my favorite foods.
Obviously I like you on Facebook!
I really prefer seitan to tofu, but I guess i didn’t know I was supposed to press it dry before using it. I bet that makes all the difference!
My boyfriend turned me on to tofu made with turmeric and dill (apparently a big staple in his hippie upbringing). It sounded odd to me, but it’s delicious!
That’s such an unusual (to me) combo. I have to try it sometime. I love dill!
I totally need a tofu press-whenever I try to make tofu, it doesn’t taste half as good as whole foods’!
my tofu is never what I’d call crispy but I love it anyways. This method looks fun
When we make stir fry’s I typically make it with tofu. My dad took chinese cooking classes ages ago so I learned the cornstarch trick from him.
Took he Nasoya Tofu U pledge

ooh, these tacos sound great! haven’t tried cornstarch, but that’s a great tip. would love to try the sprouted tofu
I love that idea for making tofu tacos – looks delicious! I used to think the idea of a tofu press was a waste, but I must say it’s annoying wasting so many paper towels so maybe it’s more worthwhile than I thought! Fun giveaway:)
I hear some people use clean kitchen towels instead. Maybe try that before investing in one? I do love mine
Honestly, I used to really dislike tofu but after graduating from college I made friends with a few vegetarians who insisted I give tofu another chance. I did, and now I love it! I guess the tofu I had before just wasn’t cooked the right way.
I recommend marinating tofu in a soy sauce, lemon juice, and oregano mixture and then baking it. The oregano might seem a little out of place but trust me, it’s delicious!
Yup, technique is definitely key. I’ll try the oregano tip next time
Wow. This recipe looks amazing! I am so impressed. I can never get my tofu crispy like that! Thanks for the tip.
I am SUCH a tofu lover! I usually press mine between my two heaviest cookbooks
Loving these tacos! What a fun filling!
[...] Crispy tofu tacos with lime cream sauce (+giveaway!) [...]
That tofu press looks like it really makes tofu preparation easier! I love making baked tofu, but draining it has to be my least favorite step.
I use to be really weirded out about the texture of tofu but now i like it a lot
I love the second last shot! This looks like the perfect meal. loving your creamy lime sauce.
Great idea to use cornstarch for frying. I would never have thought to do that, and I like the crust it creates.
Every since I was a kid I LOVED tofu. While everyone thought I was weird I would always ask the chinese food restaurant for a side of plain tofu (no sauce, raw). To this day I still love to open a package and eat away- while most call me weird, I say I’m simple and easy to please
I like to marinate and roast tofu cubes and sprinkle a few on my salads.
I pledged!
