Valentine’s day weekend

February 13th, 2010 · 12 Comments · breakfast, dessert, salad

It’s Valentine’s day weekend! I know this is a Hallmark holiday but I just can’t help but feel more love in the air. Everywhere you look, there are hearts and chocolate, and that definitely puts a big smile on my face. It also happens to be a long weekend – double awesomeness… oh and my sister and her boyfriend are in town from New York. Life is good!!

I’m running a bit behind on blogging so let me give you a quick recap (or as quick as it gets around these parts… I’m a talker 😆 ) of yesterday. It was Friday and that’s my absolute favorite day, and Friday before a long weekend is the best kind! 😉 I started with a bagel + coffee. This may be a new tradition. You guys know Cookie Friday? I may start a Bagel Friday. Not sure if it has the same ring to it… moving on…. 😉

Panera honey grain bagel with sundried tomato cream cheese and fresh tomatoes + hazelnut coffee

I had them scoop out the insides of my bagel. I promise, you really won’t miss the insides and this makes a bagel a much more reasonable every-day breakfast!

Our secretary left them on my desk. The caramel filled Hershey kiss was actually really yummy. :)

I’ve just about had enough with our kitchen situation and decided to indulge in a lunch out at my favorite healthy joint. You guessed it – b.good! I think I should contact b,good’s owners and start getting paid of all this promotion. All right, I’ll settle for healthy and delicious salads and burgers instead. Keep making them, guys! 😉

I got my usual – southwestern chicken saladmesclun, avocado, corn, tomatoes, black beans, toasted corn, chipotle balsamic dressing

I’ve taken pictures of this salad a million times. This is the first with my new baby. :) Oh and it looks prettier than ever, don’t you think?

Every ingredient is super fresh, the dressing is awesome, but the best part is definitely the toasted corn. Love.

Dessert – sugar cookie from Paradise bakery.

It’s so thick and buttery and the sugar on top makes it extra special. It took A LOT of will power not to get 2 (they were 2 for $1). The girl at the bakery really didn’t understand why I would take a second cookie for free.

Since Friday was my rest day from the gym, I went to a Barnes N Nobles and read about photography. Oh and this is my new camera bag. I’m in love with it!! (Lots of love in this post, huh? I’m telling ya, I’m feeling the love.)

It is incredibly cushiony and I am very confident with carrying my camera around in it. I know it will be well protected. The best part is that it doesn’t look like a camera bag, so I am not walking around with a giant sign on my forehead (or bag) that says: “Expensive camera here!!”

Gotta give credit to Ketti for creating this beau. I found (and purchased) the purse on etsy – the site is just full of really creative stuff from small business owners. You can really feel how much care and love each seller puts in their product. Even our wedding stationary was from an artist found through etsy! Foodzie is another recent obsession of mine!

Pre-dinner snack:

And we were off…..

I’ll do a follow up restaurant review (it’s a one of our favorite restaurants in Boston). :)

What are your plans for Valentine’s day? Love or hate the holiday?

Good for you for being happy with the 1 cookie! If more Americans understood just because you can get more calories for your buck doesn’t mean you should, we’d be a healthier nation

I love your camera bag. So fun. Glad you treated yourself to a great lunch out!

    Hey Elina!

I meant to mention earlier that my family and I visited some friends in Worcester, MA last weekend (I live in NJ). We had gone before but it was before I started reading your blog. Well this time I knew I wanted b.good for lunch and JP Licks for dessert. Both did not disappoint. I had a veggie burger with carmelized onions, swiss cheese, and bbq sauce (btw the veggie burger is a bean burger, no hint of onion). I had the french fries but they slipped in a sweet potato one and I preferred those, next time. Everyone else got the beef burgers and loved them. It was great too because we all had room for dessert and were not overstuffed with 1/2 lb burgers like we would have had somewhere else. Good thing because I got a half cake batter oreo ice cream and half mint oreo at JP Licks. OMG YUM YUM YUM. The cake batter oreo was the best ice cream I have ever had. Honestly JP Licks is top notch stuff.

I actually told the cashier at the b.good I heard about the place from your blog and dropped the name:). Anyway thanks for the great recs.

That IS an awesome camera bag! It looks like a really pretty purse.

    I don’t hate Valentine’s, I just don’t think it’s a big deal at all either.

Etsy is such an addiction of mine! That bag is too cute!

This post just made me mega jealous… I experienced Paradise in AZ, but there is not one in Ohio, nor is there a B.Good and that salad just looks out of this world. Hope you enjoyed all that food porn :)

Mmm, sugar cookie. Mmmm, Etsy. I love those two things.

Have a fun long weekend, and Happy Valentine’s Day.

Evan – I’m not going to lie – I wanted that second cookie, but I knew 1 would be the “right amount” (they are giant) and after chugging a bunch of water after that first one, I was happy with my decision to buy just one. :)

Kathleen – you are so cute! Glad you got to enjoy b.good and JP Licks. Best ice cream of your life? I say that’s quite the advertisement for the place! My favorite is the almond coconut crunch. SO good!!

Thats a super cute new bag! :)

    Happy valentines day to you!

I’m the same way about Valentine’s Day – I know it’s a cheesy holiday, but I like all the hearts and love and candy :)

I love that camera bag! I have this really bulky and ugly bag for my camera that makes me hate taking my camera anywhere. Somehow I didn’t even realize cute camera bags existed lol

Liz – I did a lot of research to find a cute camera bag. Here is another brand that’s really cute:
