No more holding back!

January 25th, 2010 · 18 Comments · breakfast, snacks

I just got back from another sweat box class and I think the sweat cleared my thinking. 😉 I was holding back in class today with fear that if I give it my all, I won’t last through the end or I’ll be out of commission tomorrow. Don’t get me wrong, I was a sweaty mess but I didn’t feel “spent” at the end and this is a feeling I crave from this class. I left unsatisfied but motivated to change this next time around. I’m done with living my life like a pass or fail class. I want to get an A!!! I’m talking about my commitment to nutrition (and losing those holiday pounds for good!) and fitness, of course. You’re going to see a stronger and slimmer Elina very soon! I am officially re-motivated. 😀

I used my own boxing gloves at sweat box today. I received them for free from Boxing Depot when the site owner saw that I recently got into boxing. I happened to wear a pink tank in the same color today, so I was rocking pink all the way! These had a great cushion although they were a bit hard to put on. I’d recommend them overall. Thank you, Aaron, for sending me these! :)

I bought some more of Zen Bakery blueberry mango cranberry bran muffins at Whole Foods on Sunday (they are half off this week!!) to have for breakfast or random snacks. I really like them these days because honestly the lack of space in our makeshift kitchen is leaving me very unmotivated to cook anything. Even making coffee is a project in the morning!

The muffins are good for you, low calorie + high fiber so I don’t mind having them often. Here is the box in case you’re interested:

Today’s breakfast:

1 muffin

+ coffee with organic skim milk and stevia 😀

I also had a clementine later at work as my mid-morning/second part of breakfast.

So yesterday’s trip to my parents’ house was not only to show off show them my new camera – it was also to pick up some food my mom cooked for us. We got lots of goodies to eat this week! Thanks, mom!!

Today, I grabbed a meat & potato pie slice

… and paired it with a giant salad I made myself – organic mixed greens, grape tomatoes and cucumber, dressed in 1T of Annie’s balsamic vinaigrette

The meat & potato pie was really delicious! It was buttery and flavorful and was nicely balanced by a fresh salad. A perfect lunch in my book!

1 FFL english muffin with crunchy peanut butter, cherry preserves and 1/2 banana

This agreed SO much better with my stomach than the beef provencal I had before the last sweat box class. This is going to become my pre-sweat box dinner from now on. Just warning you. 😉

Honey bbq chicken wings (this pic x 2)

+ this guy (I wasn’t necessarily hungry but just wanted to eat). The apple was the perfect damage control.

We have some visible progress on the ceiling. The electrical work will be finished tomorrow and then the inspections are scheduled for the rest of the week.

Oh and this is how our living room looks like these days. Yeah, not particularly inviting. 😕

Do you ever hold back when you work out? Any epiphanies happening while you’re sweating your butt off? 😉

I love the pink gloves! I hold back quite a bit because I’m afraid I’ll injure my knees again. I always stop when I get to 4 miles because I know I’ll be in pain the next day. Kinda sucky, but oh well!

Your kitchen is making progress- so great! Also, yay for moms who cook!

I tend to NOT hold back, which has gotten me into some trouble with injuries in the past! I’ve been working really hard recently to scale back when I need to!

Those pink gloves make me want to try a boxing class myself! I used to do kickboxing, but it got boring doing it alone–none of my friends wanted to join me! I don’t tend to hold back, I’m just lazy 😛 I’ve been pushing myself harder lately though, so hopefully that won’t be a problem much longer. Can’t wait to see your kitchen all done!

I used to hold back when I ran, but now I try to push myself more and more.

I can see how those fun pink gloves can motivate you to let it all out!

Normally I do not hold back in my workouts, but lately I have had to for health reasons. It’s so hard not to give it my all!

    Boxing sounds like fun!

I know EXACTLY what you mean! Sometimes I think if I run slower or work a little less in a class I will be able to do it for longer, but in the end it is just not satisfying. You’re right, its time to get re-motivated! I think taking classes is a great way to do it, since everyone is in there for an hour and you aren’t setting your own workout (which is where I can get lazy). I hope you kick some booty next class :)

I know what you mean about not committing your whole self. I do that to. Way to go on motivation! I know you’ll be awesome.

Naomi – I’ve never been to Prana. Lauren just mentioned it in my previous post. I definitely want to check it out now :)

I’m so excited to see your kitchen unveiled!
& I love that Starbucks cup- we have the same one and it’s my favorite. 😀

I used to feel like I was really breaking mental barriers when I raced. You get to a point where you’re out of touch with your arms and legs- they’re just doing their thing and all you have to do is not give up.

  • #17 - Elina

Innz – you can steal it! 😉

Adam – so glad it helped. I used it today as well! 😀

Mae – that’s funny – I actually bought one at Starbucks a while back and then it took me forever to track its twin down so I could have a set. :) Oh and I think I know that feeling you are referring to… it’s an out of body experience sometimes!

I just got those same boxing gloves. They’re awesome! My husband has the same ones in blue – lots of fun!
