Healthy and Sane

I think I broke myself at Sweat Box on Monday. I woke up on Tuesday morning, hardly able to move. My neck and shoulders hurt, my lower back feels like it’s about to snap and my calves aren’t too happy with me either. Seriously, getting up I feel like an old lady! It didn’t help that during my lunch break when I went to the dentist, she had to redo my cavity 4 times (!!!!) while my jaw was wide open and my neck tensing up further. Eek. This made for one painful day, at the end of which I just wasn’t feeling like exercising. I’m sure my body appreciated the rest. 😀

Groupon featured discounted gift certificates for YouBar so I decided to order a Healthy and Sane trail mix :)

These little baggies are perfect for portion control and quick breakfasts or snacks (although not cheap, even with the discount)! My mix included lots of healthy and sane ingredients: pecans, almonds, organic dried cherries, organic dried apricots, hazelnuts, raw goji berries, chia seeds, chocolate chips and chocolate covered raisins. So many yummies in one bag!

TJ’s nonfat yogurt with 1/2 banana, TJ’s Raisin Bran and 1 Healthy and Sane mix baggie

The mix was super sweet… did I overdo it on the “sane” portion? 😕 Note to self: don’t underestimate the sweetness of dried fruit!!

What else? Cookies!!

Quinoa, black bean and veggie stuffed pepper

We seriously had no food at home, so this frozen pizza came to the rescue before we hit the grocery stores (where I had all sorts of unpictured cheese and chocolate samples).

I ate 1/2 of this mushroom and black truffle flatbread. It’s my favorite!!

How is your week going? Do you ever feel guilty for taking unplanned rest days, even when your body is in pain? I do.

Oh no, bummer about the dentist! It’s one of my least favorite things!

Sounds like you had an awesome workout thought.

    Have a great day :)

Yes, I do feel guilty when I skip (in fact, contemplating it right now, but it’s 6AM and have a lot of time to reconsider). =)

I’ve wanted to try YouBar… maybe one day.

I also tend to beat myself up for taking an unplanned rest day when I’m just too sore for a workout. Having said that, I try to listen to my body and not push it when it’s screaming at me!

Lady! I would LOVE to hear more about sweat box. I live/work in the Boston area so I went on the website… it SUPER hard? What’s a class like?

I do feel a bit guilty taking days off but normally the day after it I kick it into high gear during my workouts so it’s okay…RIGHT!

I’m serious – you cannot make the sugar cookies anymore. Really – I’m cutting you off. They are detrimental to my new fitness routine!

eek! Hope you feel better, that’s no fun. Oh my, that stuffed pepper looks soooo good! I love those things! I’m going to have to try that flatbread also. I definitely feel guilty about not making it to the gym, especially this time of year. But like you said we can work out more soon and our bodies will be happier and stronger if we give it a little, needed rest :)

hey what brand is that flatbread? im going grocery shopping on my own today so i can pick up some new stuff 😀
i love taking days off BECAUSE of how intense you worked out the day before. makes you feel like you deserve the rest, you’re not just being lazy 😉

Innz – the flatbread is from TJ’s. It’s amazing, but I thought you didn’t like truffles? I’m still in pain 2 days later, btw. WTF?!!

I struggle ALOT with feeling guilty when I need to take a rest day. I’m a barefoot runner and if I ever get ahead of myself and run way more than usual I get blisters and have to wait until they heal before running again. I’m trying to work with myself and keep sane during those times but it’s always a fight for me.

    Good job on resting!

sounds like i need to try this sweat box class when my knee is feeling better :) glad you took the day of rest, sounds like you certainly needed it! stupid dentists, don’t even get me started…

Hey girl! I so hope you feel better!! I used to feel guilty alot but i dont now. If my body needs rest I take it. Ive learned that a few days off here and there does not set you back from your goals and actually might help you in the long run. Personally Id rather take some rest and have a really rockin workout the next day instead of pushing the pain and having a mediocre workout. Dont feel guilty! =)
When I get really sore I soak in a hot bath, that usually helps a lot. The massage stick is an awesome tool I use as well while I’m watching tv. It helps relieve some soreness too.

I really hate the dentist. Ugh! I really hope you feel better!!!

    mmm cookies!

I got this groupon deal also and have been waiting to place my order. Sounds like you would recommend going down on the dried fruit? What should I up it with?

  • #14 - Elina

Diana – I heard about the blister problem with barefoot runners. What a cool hobby! 😀

    Shannon – LET’S DO IT!!

24carrot – I think my mix was too sweet because it had 2 kinds of chocolate in addition to a bunch of sweet dried fruit. Just try to keep it balanced and I’m sure you’ll love it! :)

I ate that exact same flatbread for dinner last night! It was my first time trying it, and it was pretty yummy. 😉
