Getting fit with Wii Fit

December 8th, 2009 · 14 Comments · Boston, breakfast, burgers, Eating out, salad, turkey

Tonight I did some non-conventional exercise… I tried Adam’s new Christmas gift from my parents – Wii Fit! They brought it to dinner last night and we played with it for nearly 2 hours and went to bed late. Tonight we both decided to give it another go. My husband is actually excited about exercise!!!

After setting up my profile (I have 2 pig tails, light brown hair and a very stylish purple outfit 😆 ), the board (also a scale) weighs you and then you go through a few balance tests. Then your “Wii age” is determined. Last night my Wii age was 45 because my balance was way off, today it was 47 – the Wii told me I clearly have memory problems. Oops 😳 I am, however, in the “normal weight range.” At least the Wii got some love for me 😉

There are 5 categories of exercise. I picked a few “aerobic” ones to warm up (included some hoola hoop and step – oh yeah, it was quite the scene!), then some strength moves and finally finished with a few yoga moves. I think I’ll probably do yoga more than the other ones but the strength moves are pretty good. Adam did the same ones so the system ranks us. I like it when I get to beat him. A little competition is good 😀

For your viewing pleasure… I can’t believe I’m posting these (the hoola hoop video that Adam took will have to remain private… I look like I’m having a seizure).

I had fun, but this certainly can’t replace my “real” workouts. I think it’s a really great tool for beginners to get into exercise. The sensors in the board tell you if your form is improper. I discovered that my weight always shifts to the left, so that’s something I need to work on. Adam and I plan on tracking our progress on the Wii. We set some weight loss goals for the summer (nothing crazy for me, just a few pounds for fun so I can show improvement on the system).

Coffee banana oats with chuck chuck

B.good turkey burger with homemade cinnamon apple chutney, roasted butternut squash, and cheddar. This burger is not on the menu, but you can ask for it on Mondays and Tuesdays for the next few weeks. As soon as I found out about it, I had to get it!!

Is that onions on my burger?!! 👿

Let’s try this again:

Much better!! I asked if there were onions on it and the girl said no. Good thing I decided to take a picture of it before heading back to work or else this would be a disaster. The girl was really apologetic and I got a free coupon for a burger for next time. It was almost worth nearly missing my meeting (I was scarfing this down literally outside of the conference room). SOOO good (is that a foodie combo or what?)!!

A little chocolate covered wafer from Japan from my co-worker:

100 calorie brownie by Glenny’s:

This brownie was actually pretty good for being 100 calories and low fat, and I believe there are no junk ingredients either. Not bad, not bad… I’d get it again if I wanted to be really healthy but was also craving a brownie.

Mixed greens, roasted asparagus, hericot verts, grape tomatoes and 1/2 sweet-spicy glazed salmon fillet

+ crackers with Samira’s Homemade baba ganoush (see below)

This baba ganoush is locally produced and it’s amazing!!! I actually couldn’t stop eating this (imagine another giant piece of ww bread with a thick layer of it + a few spoonfuls straight from the tub). It’s so smoky and delicious!!! (I bought it at Whole Foods).

And that’s how you do it! 😉

Whoa, is it really 11pm already? Time flies by when you’re having wii fun

Have you tried Wii Fit? If so, did you like it? If not, do you have any interest in it? I’m all for fitting exercise in, in a fun way :)

You look great! I have tried the Wii Fit, and had the same balance issue. I agree that it’s fun, but not really challenging enough to replace my typical workout. Wii Fit is no Jillian Michaels ;).

I MUST get to B. Good for that burger! It’s like it was designed for me!

I also need to scope out the baba ganoush at Whole Foods.

Thank you for the wii fit review. I’ve been toying with getting it, but I dont think its really worth the money to me…….I prefer my physicially exerting workouts at the gym, lifting weights, running and HIIT etc. My aunt keeps telling me to get the wii fit but I just dont think its worth the investment. Maybe if the wii came out with a semi-decent workout video (ala Jillian Michaels) i’d buy that…(for when its snowing and I can’t make it to the gym of course!)

You look hot! I’ve been thinking of getting a Wii fit, but I’m not sure if it would be worth it if you don’t get a hardcore workout. Thanks for the review!

I love the Wi Fit, but just for fun! It doesn’t replace exercise.

As the ‘exercise beginner’ :), I think the wii fit is great. Sure the aerobic exercises aren’t exactly going to help you train for a marathon, but they’re a good warm up to get your heart rate up for the strength training exercieses and the yoga moves. If you supplement the strength training routines with some weights I think you could get a pretty decent workout.

I plan on doing cardio and some weights at the gym, and finishing up with wii fit. We’ll see how it goes!

I got Wii Fit a little over a year ago and absolutely loved it. Unfortunately my enthusiasm waned. I just got the updated version though so I’m looking forward to getting back into it again.

I LOVE onions! lay them on!

My family has wii fit. I think it’s great for them because it gets kids interested in working out for competition.

We have a wii but not fit. I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t use it much because it would take forever for me to get an intense enough work out.

no need to worry about posting those pics, you look damn good 😉 i don’t have a wii… so i haven’t used it. very kewl that you could see the difference in balance/weight transfer!

that burger… i want!! wish it was closer :/

Whoa! What’s up, hottie? You look great!

I really want to try Wii Fit; every time Kyle goes into Game Stop, I debate whether or not to purchase it. Maybe I will, now.

Hehe, thanks for the compliments everybody. I’m actually totally embarrassed now that I posted these. I should have thought to wear a shirt for this. Oh well 😉

Oh and the workouts are not intense if compared to bootcamp but I think yoga and strength moves are pretty good AND you get the benefit of knowing whether you’re aligned correctly because the board knows how much weight you put on each side of it. :) Also, there are Jillian Michaels and Biggest Loser games for the wii too that utilize the same board. Those could be more intense. Something to research… 😀

oo ooo will you let me try it out when i’m in boston next? i know my alignment is way off when i do yoga — it would be cool to see it

If I looked as fit as you, I would definitely post those pics, too!
I have tried the Wii Fit and really fell in love! I agree that it would never replace regular workouts, but it’s a fun way to burn a few extra calories if you’re going to be playing a video game, anyway. I wish my in-laws would buy us one!

Seeing your review of Wii fit on here was really helpful actually. I have never used it and have wondered what it’s all about. It looks much cooler than I thought! Nice abs too girl! That burger sounds divine, totally a foodie combo!
