Healthy and Sane

Barney Butter addict

March 16th, 2009 · 12 Comments · 30 Day Shred, Asian, breakfast, dessert, sandwich, shrimp

Today’s eats ended on a goooood note 😀 Mmm, chocolate pumpkin bread with Barney Butter.  Yeah, that’s how I stay “sane” 😉

1/2 slice of chocolate pumpkin bread with Barney Butter

This little guy did trigger a bit of a Barney Butter crazy in me (yes I used “crazy” as a noun) but my husband quickly removed the spoon and the jar out of my hands before any serious damage could be done.  He actually tried to fake hide the jar.  Haha.  Oh he knows me so well. :) I think I managed to eat about 1.5 tablespoons (unpictured of course).  Yes I want more, but I also want to be thin and fabulous and the 2 don’t go well together.  I’ll have some tomorrow with breakfast.  Perfect! 😀

There were so many things I wanted to make with my pretzel this morning.  This egg sandwich did not dissapoint!  I cooked the egg in the microwave for a quick and nutritious breakfast!  Despite it’s small size, this baby fueled me through the morning and a lunch workout.  No need for a pre-workout snack today.  Yay, protein! :)

breakfast pretzel sandwich: egg, american cheese + 1.5 bacon slices

lunch: salad + strawberry chobs

salad closeup: mixed greens, grape tomatoes, raw broccoli, goat cheese, sunflower seeds, cranberries with 1T Annie's woodstock dressing

lunch "dessert" - dark chocolate adora calcium disk

mid afternoon snack: pumpkin chocolate bread slice

Dinner was Plan B because the fish I planned to make for dinner didn’t defrost in the fridge (even though I took it out of the freezer last night!).  Thankfully I had this little package in the cupboards for “emergencies” just like this :)

TJ's pad thai with sauce

And of course we keep shrimp in the freezer and shrimp defrosts in minutes under cold water.  Love it!  The only thing is… and I don’t know why I thought this would be any different – there were no veggies included.  Duh, Elina – how could they put veggies in the unrefrigerated box!  I don’t know!  Maybe I thought they’d be dried.  I guess that wouldn’t be very tasty anyway.  I was just surprised to see only noodles and sauce in the box.  Anyways, I dug in deeper into my freezer, fridge and the cupboards and this came together 10 minutes later.  Voila!

pad thai with shrimp, snap peas, peppers, baby corn, egg and peanuts

The sauce was a little sweeter than I usually like (like if you ordered “American pad thai” in a restaurant instead of the authentic version) but this was great, especially for such a quick meal.  The box supposedly serves 2, but with all the extra goodies I was able to sneak in there, we stretched it to 3 serving.  Leftovers here I come 😀

Oh and I also had my last Vosges truffle.  I’ve actually stretched the box for a little too long.  This was yummy but I know it would have been mind blowing amazing if I actually ate it fresh.  The little guy was called Budapestinfluences from Hungary bring about this dark chocolate truffle.  A combination of dark chocoalte and paprika-infused fresh cream is finished with a dusting of sweet Hangarian paprika.

Total calories consumed today: ~1720 (the little guy above totally triggered my sweet tooth that got the best of me!)

Two workouts today, both awesome!  I took a “Rope’n'” class at the gym today – combines high-speed jumprope exercises with strength-training techniques, including jump squats, squat thrusts, mountain climbers, foot-fires, and speed-bags. Basically throughout the class you alternate between 1 minute jump rope and 1 minute of something else (lifting weights, jumping jacks, etc.).  I felt super strong today and loved every second of it!  Workout stats:

  • Duration: 0:48 (+ 5 minutes of stretching)
  • Calories burnt: 430 (40% fat)
  • Ave HR: 150 (77%); Max HR: 173 (89%)

After work my husband and I also did the Shred dvd workout.  I started the 30 Day Shred challenge 10 days ago, but was unable to do it 3 of those days.  That makes today actually day 7.  Since Adam is not ready to move on to level 2 yet, we’ll do it 3 more times for a complete 10 days and then we’ll start level 2.  Again, I am SO happy that he’s doing it with me!!  He said he’s already feeling the difference between today (day 3 for him) and the first time he tried it.  I was smiling the entire time we were working out 😀 Shred workout stats:

  • Duration: 0:27 (includes stretching)
  • Calories burnt: 172 (55% fat)
  • Ave HR: 124 (64%); Max HR: 151 (78%)

So many awesome giveaways going on.  I never win – maybe you will :)

Thank you all for your positive feedback on the new layout! I’m very happy with it.  Glad you like it too 😀

You are killin it with the workouts. I have to say- your hubby rocks for helping you control yourself. Whenever I ask my fiance to hide something from me, he just laughs!

I’m going to ask because I know you will give it to be straight–is Barney Butter REALLY worth the price?! I couldn’t believe it when I went to Whole Foods and it was so much more than just the regular AB. I want to try it but man, it better be good!
I never win the giveaways, either! Thanks for spreading the word!

One Healthy Apple – yeah, he’s good like that 😀

Lara, I’m an addict, so I don’t know if I’m the right person to ask 😉 Seriously though, it uses roasted almonds – do you like almond butter with roasted almonds or do you prefer the raw kind? I heard BB being compared to Jiffy in the pb family – it’s much thicker and creamier. Mmm, I want more now 😀 (already had some for breakfast!). The 1T packets are also genius! How long are you in CA for? I can send you a little packet if you’d like :)

    1. great calories for the day. i always try to stay between 1200 and 1800 so that i end up at 1500 overall over time. sometimes it’s easier than others!!!!!

    2. gotta LOVE it when the boys help us out and remove our sweet treats from us! I actually have asked PB to physically remove a dessert from my hand if I have more than the portion I had decided on (which is usually 3-4 bites). He does a great job, and I love him for doing it!!

    3. that pad thai looks smoking. Shrimp is one of those things I am afraid to cook for some reason!! Come over and cook that for me please! Thanks.

  • #7 - Elina

Haha, Sabrina. It’s SO easy to cook shrimp! It cooks within minutes and you know it’s done because it turns pink. Easy – I know you can do it :)

i wish my plan as looked as good as your plan bs!

and i go at my jar of peanut butter nightly. maybe
i should try to train my roommates dog to remove
the jar from my hand after like three big spoonfuls.

Aww, you’re so sweet to get back to me and offer that. I have only tried roasted almond butter before, so I have been wanting to try raw. I’ll look for the little packets at the store, no need to ship any precious cargo 😉 Thank you though, I’ll let you know what I think!!

  • #10 - Elina

    Amanda, thanks – I try 😀

Thanks, Erin. I was pretty pleased with it :)

Lara, no problem! Let us all know what you think of it! Meanwhile, I’m running low on the goods and I don’t think I’m allowed to order any more for a while…
