Work work work

All I did today was work, work, work.  Seriously no breaks at all.  Zero!  Well ok, I went to the bathroom a few times and got up to make my food, and yes I responded to a few comments on the blog, but all that was maybe 15 minutes over the corse of 12 hours!!  I’m not even done with work, but a fire alarm went off on our floor at work (it smelled like gas, a sprinkler exploded… ) so I left.  After connecting to our network remotely from home, and doing a bit more work, I decided to call it a night.  I’m exhausted and I think that I can finish everything up in the morning.  I really hope I can get it done, otherwise I’m pretty much screwed.  Don’t you hate when work gets in the way of fun?! ;)

Today was ok, eating wise.  I’m still not my cheery old self, ready to be healthy and all, but I went through the motions and ate pretty well.  Hopefully the happy/healthy feeling will come back soon, probably once I start exercising again – that usually helps clear my head!  I was also thinking more about a comment Sarah made on my previous post (thank you Sarah, again, by the way!).  She suggested increasing my calorie range so I wouldn’t be tempted to overdo it or binge.  The thing is I heard so many times that as long as you eat at least 1200 calories/day, no matter how much you exercise, your body should have sufficient fuel to function and anything else you burn on top of the calories consumed will help in weight loss.  If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, or if you recently checked out my About Me page, you know that I’m trying to lose weight.  I recently increased my calorie range up from 1200-1500 to 1200-1650 in order to feel more satisfied.  This may not seem like enough to some people, especially on days when I exercise a lot, but like I said before, I never ever eat less than 1200 calories so that means my body should still have enough calories to function, and I don’t eat extra on those exercise intensive days because even when I’m “strict” I still give myself a day off, eat out, enjoy a pastry, etc.  I figured this way my weekly intake is at a good level, considering I am trying to lose weight.  I think I even heard some people refer to this strategy as “calorie cycling”… does it make sense?  Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?  Do you have any other suggestions?  I really do want to go out at least once a week and not worry about calories.  This works for my personality (and worked weight loss wise for me in the past).  Thanks again for hearing me ramble here and I really do want to be able to live a happy/balanced life.  I don’t mean to starve myself at all, and hopefully you know this from reading my blog already.

Moving on, let’s see what I had today.  It wasn’t overly exciting (and definitely not very creative) so I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.

1/2 banana, instant oats, barney butter + fresh blueberries

laughing cow/turkey/avocado sandwich with baby carrots and grape toms

organic red delicious apple

Mojo mountain mix bar

blueberry chobani with extra fresh blueberries

Kraft easy mac

I ate the easy mac because I thought I was staying late in the office and that was the only thing in my desk drawer that was kind of dinner-ish.  It tasted very fake but it filled me up! :D

Total calories for the day: 1428

No workout again today … tomorrow I should be able to squeeze one in!

Thanks again for all of your comments!!!

I’ve fallen off the wagon

Hi bloggies,

Sorry I’ve been MIA.  I kind of went crazy with food the last few days and it’s hard to blog when you don’t feel very good about yourself.  Also work is insanely busy so I haven’t been able to go to the gym yesterday and won’t be able to go today either.  That’s too bad because I really want to restart this whole healthy living thing and exercise really helps.  Anyway, I just wanted to say that I miss you, and here are some pics of yesterday’s food (as always, scroll over for descriptions).  My meals were healthy but there was a lot of unpictured junk in between (cookies, nuts, Barney Butter out of the jar!).  Barney Butter is trouble by the way… I don’t know if buying it in jars was a good idea.  Maybe I should stick to the little packets, although they are definitely not as good.

I am a brave woman… maybe

Hi bloggies, I forgot to mention that I decided to participate in Amanda’s Sexy Six Pack challenge.  Did you notice how much I love challenges? :)

The sexy six pack challenge logo

The rules state that you have to commit to some kind of abs routine at least 3 times a week for 30 days.  Originally I said I’ll just do something for at least 10 minutes (abs class at the gym, abs class from my dvr, my own somethin somethin) and that’s what I started with, but yesterday under my bed I noticed a very dusty AB slide that was crying out for help.  I got this thing years ago in college and I can probably count on my 2 hands the number of times I used it.  This thing is so hard!  I mean, not only does it work your abs, but your arms have to be mighty strong if you want to get back up.  Now that sounds like my kind of challenge! :D  So I’ll be using this baby at least 3 times a week and we’ll see if I can improve.

AB slide

Don’t let its cute appearance fool you!  This thing is a monster!

Anyways, this is where I may grow some balls and actually show you what I’m made off.  I took a “before picture” of my abs yesterday.  I will not post it until February 17, hopefully along with the sexy six pack abs in the “after picture.”  Of course that’s only if I don’t chicken out.  Maybe I shouldn’t have eaten Barney Butter straight out the jar this morning, heh? ;)

So for my first AB slide workout, I did 20 straight rolls and 10 on each side.  I think it’s possible to roll out even further, but I’m not there yet.  It’s funny, because I think my ab muscles are pretty strong, but somehow this thing still kicks my ass… err, abs :D  I’ll report on my progress with the AB slide in future posts.

REST OF MY WORKOUT

After doing a little rollin, I turned on my cable box for some yoga.  It’s totally my new thing!  I like that I don’t have to leave the apartment to have a little workout!  I just did a 20 minute routine that was nice and relaxing – lot’s of stretching.  I totally needed it!  My inner thighs were making a clicking noise that freaked me out a bit.  I felt better afterwards!

Then I did a whole lot of nothing but after a few hours put on my gym clothes and hit the gym.  I knew I wanted to do some weights and figured I’ll just see if I feel like anything else once I’m there.  Of course, once I get to the gym I’m like a machine, so it ended up being an extra long session.  Works for me! :)

I started with a 5 minute warm-up on the elliptical, followed by back/biceps/hamstrings/glutes and obliques workout from Jillian’s Winning by Losing book…. then 15 minutes on the bike and another 10 minutes on the elliptical.  I felt great afterwards, and the best part, because I pushed myself a little extra, I hit my weekly workout minimum (~8 hours) so I don’t have to work out today if I don’t want to (and it looks like it is going to be a lazy day so that’s good that I don’t have to drag myself to the gym).  Gym workout stats:

  • Duration: 1:40
  • Calories burnt: 735 (45% fat)
  • Ave HR: 134, Max HR: 189

BEST MEAL OF THE DAY

banana/mascarpone/chocolate stuffed french toast

I started the morning with some whole wheat french toast stuffed with 1/2 banana, mascarpone cheese and chocolate chips (using Arnold’s Double Fiber whole wheat bread as the base).  The egg mixture was just 3/4 of an egg with 1/4 cup skim milk and a drop of vanilla extract.  Here are the insides before cooking:

And the final product with some coffee:

OTHER EATS

organic gala apple

Mmm, goat cheese…

no pudge brownie with dried cherries

2 AK MAK crackers

banana bread larabar

And for dinner, we went to O Sushi restaurant.  I’ll do a separate post of dinner with my restaurant review :)

We also went to a Big Lebowski party (the Big Lebowski movie was playing in one room, we were all drinking white russians, and a few people were playing Wii Bowling in another room), so I had one of these:
